Although it’s about as useless as Romo in December, MGM and Screen Gems are intent on remaking Brian De Palama’s 1976 classic, CARRIE. At last glance, we heard Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan had been lobbying to play the role immortalized by Sissy Spacek in the original. Now, as production slogs along, it seems a director may have just been found.
According to Deadline, BOYS DON’T CRY and STOP LOSS director Kimberly Peirce (seen above) is in negotiations to helm the CARRIE redo. Apparently the script by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa stays more true to Stephen King’s novel, as opposed to being a flat out remake of the film version. Either, I understand the thinking of the studio. Peirce mined a hell of a performance out of Hillary Swank in BOYS DON’T CRY, and if she can somehow recreate the level torment the lead character endures in that film, the further the pathos of Carrie’s revenge will ultimately be. That said, I think it’s a mistake to remake the film, as Piper Laurie gives one of the all time scariest turns on film. Simply cannot be topped.

Carrie White is a shy young girl who doesn’t make friends easily. After her class mates taunt her about her horrified reaction to her totally unexpected first period one of them takes pity on her and gets Tommy Ross, her boyfriend and class hunk to invite Carrie to the senior prom. Meanwhile another girl who has been banned from the prom for her continued aggressive behaviour is not as forgiving and plans a trick to embarrass Carrie in front of the whole school. What she doesn’t realise is that Carrie is … gifted, and you really don’t want to get her angry.
