After it was announced in July that CBS Films had been developing a new horror film called HELLFEST, it seems the studio has spent the last five months zeroing in on their field general. And you know what, they may have found one!

Deadline has it that Neil Marshal (DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT) is in early negotiations to direct HELLFEST. If the deal goes through, Marshall will take HELLFEST as his next picture, with an estimated start date of summer 2012.

Written by William Penick and Chris Sey – HELLFEST is about what happens at a Halloween theme park when one of the costumed characters is actually killing the patrons who think it’s all part of the show.

Can’t speak for all, but I’m definitely feeling that setup. Don’t know, I’m instantly hit with shades of THE FUNHOUSE, a personal favorite, so I’m predisposed to liking it I guess. And with Marshal being as well versed with the genre has he continues to prove, HELLFEST could be an awesomely good time. If dude can bring half of the brio of DOG SOLDIERS, with half the suspense of THE DESCENT, than we’re definitely in for a treat.

More on HELLFEST as we scare it…
