Not that I don’t believe him, but what else is going to say?

Bill Nighy, the great English character actor, recently spoke with The Playlist to discuss a number of projects he has on the horizon. One such flick was Len Wiseman’s revision of TOTAL RECALL, in which Nighy will play the character of Kuato. When speaking about the film, it’s clear Nighy was well aware of how popular the 1990 original is, and even so, promised the most ardent fans that the new version will not disappoint. Peep it…

“I’m a big fan of sci-fi…I’m not a fan of monsters and that stuff but I do like funky, imaginative versions of the near future and this is absolute brilliant.” He then gave us a taste of the technology on display in the new film: “It’s the kind of thing where you look at it and you say, yeah, it could be like that – it could be true that people commute from Australia to Britain every morning.”

Continuing, Nighy said:

“I know the film is treasured but I can help you relax because if anyone can remake it, it’s not even in safe hands, it’s in brilliant hands.”

Definitely encouraging. Wiseman has assembled a pretty impressive cast, and has shown visual aplomb in the past, so there’s no reason to think Nighy is pulling our leg. Will the film match Verhoeven’s? Find out when the film lands on August 3rd.
