What’s the status on Pride & Prejudice & Zombies? Scribe Marti Noxon talks

So, now that Craig Gillespie has officially vacated the director’s chair on the adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, what’s ultimately in the cards for production on the film?

Enter writer Marti Noxon (seen right), who not only wrote a draft of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel, but also worked with Gillespie on the FRIGHT NIGHT remake. The lovely lady recently spoke with Movies.com, and she basically cites riskiness as the reason the film has had trouble getting off the ground. Peep it…

“It’s very hard to sell a comedy-horror concept. As much as it’s already pre-sold and popular much in the same way ‘Fright Night’ was, it’s still a little risky. At the same time, you get a success like ‘Zombieland,’ but then something will come along that makes people nervous again, so I feel like there’s a little bit of that problem, particularly on the casting side. It’s hard to find an actress who is super hot because they might not be inclined to take a risk on something that has a 70 / 30% chance of working, you know?”

Wait, aren’t the TWILIGHT movies horror-comedies? Guess I’m out of sorely out of touch. Still, Noxon has a point. Genre mash-ups are usually a tough sell, period set ones even more so I’d imagine. Hopefully a new director is found soon though, and the flick gets back on the fast track.

Speaking of, who should direct PPZ? Who should star?
