“No Need” for a movie based on hit video game BioShock at this point

I’ve expressed how much I’d love to see a flick based on the hit video game BIOSHOCK before and that hasn’t changed. Unfortunately the prospect of a BIOSHOCK film being made has changed.

You see back in May we heard from BIOSHOCK creator Ken Levine that talks of a BIOSHOCK movie were still very much in the cards. But here we are, six months later, and it seems things have changed. The guys over at Industry Gamers caught up with Mr. Levine recently and asked for an update on the long-awaited adaptation. Check out what Levine had to say:

“We got very close to having it get made – we had a deal in place and a director. But for us there’s no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made. For us and for Take-Two, it’s really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don’t know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is it going to be a good representation of the game.

There are differences between games and movies, no doubt, but the movie has to draw from the same DNA in terms of the world and the story beats. But you know, we don’t have a need to get it made.”

So there you have it folks, with Levine and company currently concentrating on BIOSHOCK INFINITE I’d say the chances of a flick coming out soon are dead in the water. I wouldn’t count it out totally though… This is Hollywood we’re talking about.
