Well, can you?

Twitch has broken the news that Warner Bros. has offered it-girl Kristen Stewart (pictured) the role of Kei in their live-action remake AKIRA. No word if she’ll accept, but the party continues for the 21 year old, who despite looking like an inveterate pothead, keeps landing high profile starring roles. Question is, does she even know what AKIRA as, and if so, will she take the role?

If she does, she’ll possibly join Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter and Garrett Hedlund in the Jaume Collet-Serra directed film.

Based on Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic manga, AKIRA picks up after:

Neo-Tokyo (now set in New Manhattan) has risen from the ashes of World War III to become a dark and dangerous megalopolis infested with gangs and terrorists. The government seethes with corruption and only maintains a token control over the powerful military that prevents total chaos and hides the secrets of the past. Childhood friends Tetsuo and Kaneda plunge into Neo-Tokyo’s darkest secret when their motorcycle gang encounters a military operation to retrieve an escaped experimental subject. Tetsuo, captured by the military, is subjected to experiments that make him a powerful psychic, but, unfortunately for Neo-Tokyo, Tetsuo’s powers rage out of control and he lashes out at the world that has oppressed him.

So what’s up, Stewart who you had in mind when thinking of Kei? Is Keira Knightly, as rumored prior, a better choice? If neither, who should be cast?
