Joshua Marston set to remake Italian neo-noir The Double Hour

Last tax day I felt pretty good about introducing an Italian neo-noir to all you AITH readers. At the time, the flick in question, Giuseppe Capotondi’s THE DOUBLE HOUR, had already been fashioned for American remake. Well, looks like that remake has found a shepherd!

According to THR, Joshua Marston (MARIA FULL OF GRACE, seen above) has been pegged to adapt THE DOUBLE HOUR to the English language. He will both write and direct said adaptation for producers Roy Lee and Nicola Giuliano.

Guido (Filippo Timi), a former cop, is a luckless veteran of the speed-dating scene in Turin. But, much to his surprise, he meets Slovenian immigrant Sonia (Ksenia Rappoport), a chambermaid at a high-end hotel. The two hit it off, and a passionate romance develops. After they leave the city for a romantic getaway in the country, things suddenly take a dark turn. As Sonia’s murky past resurfaces, her reality starts to crumble. Everything in her life begins to change – – questions arise and answers only arrive through a continuous twist and turn of events keeping viewers on edge until the film’s final moments. THE DOUBLE HOUR, winner of Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Italian Film at the Venice International Film Festival, is directed by Giuseppe Capotondi.

Not sure about you all, but I like this hire a good deal. I loved MARIA FULL OF GRACE, and even more, I love how selective this Marston cat is. After MARIA, he’s only done one other feature, instead opting to wade in and out of TV, short film work, etc. Also, the fact he writes what he directs is a huge bonus in my eyes. Hopefully that intimacy transpires in his take on THE DOUBLE HOUR.
