What’s with all the taunting and teasing?
On the first of the month, we let you in on the spate of male actors being considered to star in Andrew Niccol’s THE HOST…you know, the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s (TWILIGHT) sci-fi novel. Of those young bastards vying for the part, it seems Jake Abel (seen above) has taken the lead to take…the lead.
Word comes from Deadline, which intimates Abel has a good chance to lock one of the two male leads in THE HOST. If he’s cast, Abel will play the role of Ian, doing so alongside the great (yes, I said great) Saoirse Ronan. Negotiations are soon to come.
Scripted by Niccol (IN TIME), here’s what THE HOST entails:
Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.
When Melanie (Ronan), one of the few remaining “wild” humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Given that synopsis, you think this Abel cat is, um, able? Anyone else you’d rather see star opposite Ronan?
