Independent distribution house Monterey Media has nabbed the domestic theatrical rights to Guy Maddin’s KEYHOLE, a black & white gangster noir/haunted house thriller starring Jason Patric and Isabella Rossellini. The movie recently made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received mixed reviews. (The Hollywood Reporter called it “as frustrating as it is beguiling.”)

According to Variety, Patric portrays a gangster and deadbeat father who returns home after a long absence and begins a protracted journey through his rotting mausoleum of a house in search of his estranged wife, played by Rossellini.

Flick also stars Udo Kier, Louis Negin and Brooke Palsson. Naturally, Kier’s presence alone indicates that the film has at least one foot set firmly in the realm of the bizarre.

Monterey plans on giving KEYHOLE a theatrical release in the spring of next year.
