The last we heard on Fede Alvarez’s THE EVIL DEAD remake was last month, when Bruce ‘The Chin’ Campbell gave us all the good news that there would be no ‘Ash’ in this reboot. So things were looking up, right?

Well it seems things are rocky once again as the guys over at Bloody-Disgusting scored a look at the rundown for this thing and let’s just say it isn’t exactly genius. Check it out:

The reboot is true to the roots of [Sam] Raimi’s original as it follows a group of friends who hole up in a remote cabin, discover the “Book of the Dead” and accidentally unleash an unrelenting group of Deadites.

The “new spin” is the motivation behind the trip, with the lead character taking his younger sister to the family’s cabin to help her kick her drug addiction. Without her drugs she becomes insane and difficult to control, which makes it impossible to see that she’s actually possessed.

The worst part, though, is that one of the friends unleashes the demons by deciphering the Book of the Dead and reading the passages aloud.

Sure it’s not that far off the original but personally I’m not digging the whole ‘impossible to see that she’s actually possessed’ bit. Just let the demons reek some havoc and let’s have some fun! Don’t try and get smart with it. Did I mention Diablo Cody (below) penned this shite? That might actually explain things…

So folks, there you have it. Your latest update on this EVIL DEAD remake, whether you want it or not. You can bet we’ll be bringing you every piece of news that comes our way on this high profile project so be sure to check back soon for more.
