Everyone’s getting into the found footage game. The latest name to wade in those waters is Deon Taylor, the fellow who brought us CHAIN LETTER and NITE TALES: THE MOVIE (starring Flava Flav!). He’s cooking up a demonic tale which, of course, will be made in the POV fashion we’re all so fond of.
Fangoria got the scoop on the film, titled AKUMA – which in Japanese culture is a demon with a flaming head and fiery eyes – and here’s what they could grab of the plot: Having suffered a recent tragedy, Akira’s trying to put her life back together and comes to realize she’s up against evil forces.
AKUMA will apparently by a combination of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and THE EXORCIST, which sounds good – but we’ll have to wait and see. (I personally did not care for CHAIN LETTER much at all.)
Screen Media Films will distribute the movie; a U.S. theatrical release in fall 2012 is planned. Shooting begins next month in California and Japan.
