Blake Lively skips Pride & Prejudice & Zombies…will anyone take this thing?

We don’t often comment on roles rejected, but since PRIDE & PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES has been passed on more than the Patriots defense, we’ll give this one an update…

Remember a couple weeks ago when we let you know the leggy Blake Lively (below) had been offered the female lead in PRIDE & PREJUDICE & ZOMBIES? Yeah well, that’s a no go!

Word from Variety’s Justin Kroll is Lively has decided to skip the Craig Gillespie adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s bestseller. No reason as to her aversion, but expect to hear another spate of female names sprout up in the near future as possible replacements. Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Mia Wasikowska, and others have been linked to the role in the past.

Which begs the larger question? If a once hot property, cogently adapted into a script by the original author, is now having trouble attracting talent…what could be the problem? Is it the risky mash-up angle? The fact Gillespie’s FRIGHT NIGHT pretty much flopped? Or are vampires simply far too tired to put a fresh spin on at this point?

Better yet, will any young lady in Hollywood take this damn role? Are we gonna have to wait 6 years for Elle Fanning to grow up? What’s the deal?!?
