One of my most anticipated films to check out is Dick Maas’ SAINT (or SINT), which is currently in limited VOD release.
The DVD is coming at us from MPI, who have given it a December 20th release date. You know just in time for the festive season. However it isn’t going to go under the title of SAINT, instead it’ll be SAINT NICK. Why you might ask? I have no idea, but I have a bad feeling this is going to be miss marketed.
If you look below, I’ve included a picture of the DVD art, now does that scream violent slasher to you? Nope, and I can bet people are probably going to pick this up thinking it might be wholesome family fun, but instead get something else. I am sure it will kick up quite the stink.
SAINT finds St. Niklas, a bishop fallen out of grace, travel in the middle ages with his gang of robbers and thieves through the countryside, raping, plundering and killing. When villagers take the law into their own hands and murder the bloodthirsty bishop and his thugs by setting the ship on which they travel ablaze, Niklas vows revenge. Now every time there is a full moon on December 5th, the date that he died, something that on average takes place every 36 years, St. Niklas and his helpers will rise from the dead and take revenge in a horrible way.
It stars Huub Stapel, Egbert Jan Weeber, Caro Lenssen, Kees Boot, Frederik Brom, Madelief Blanken, Cynthia Abma, Joey van der Velden, Terrence Sinclair and Christopher Parren.
