It was only a few days ago that I was telling you guys how director Jose Padhilla was talking about how his upcoming ROBOCOP remake was going to be different from Paul Verhoeven’s original. It seems if Padhilla has his way one way his film will be different is that it’ll star the talented Michael Fassbender as Officer Alex Murphy!
This is coming from the guys over at Bleeding Cool, who got word that Padhilla said exactly that in an interview with Brazillian TV channel Globo 1. Check out what the director said:
I’ll film Robocop. I’m indeed writing the script, the writer is here with me in Rio, we’ve spent over the last 15 days working together, refining the script.
I’ll be travelling this friday back to LA, bringing this new version to discuss with the studio, and maybe begin with the casting, selecting actors… and the idea is to begin filming in February – February or March. That’s the idea, y’know, we never know in the american movie industry. We’re just delivering the project, but also we depend on the schedule of the actors… it’s tough.
I can’t talk yet, it’s too early to speak, but there are some actors I like. I really like the Fassbender, I’d like to talk to him — I’ll talk to him. There’s a possibility… and there’s a lot of other great actors that would play Robocop. But that’s the idea, to film around January, February, March.
I don’t know about you guys but this almost instantly makes this reboot Ok in my book. In the past I’ve always recognized Fassbender as a talented actor. Then I saw X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and thoroughly enjoyed it solely because of Fassbender. Needless to say the man has made it a-top my ‘Can Do No Wrong’ list. And to see him as ‘Robocop?!’ Hell yes! Oh and Padhilla confirmed the film will be set in Detroit. To check the video out, which is in Portuguese, head right over HERE.
So there you have it folks. You can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one to see how it plays out. As soon as any updates come our way we’ll be sure to pass them right along to all of you.
