So last week our gal Marcey let you know Venkman and the boys will once again take to the theaters and show that bitch Gozer how they do things downtown!
Well, here now are the specifics. Word is GHOSTBUSTERS, Ivan Reitman’s 1984 hit, will play in 500 screens across the country for three days in October. Thing is, they will be three isolated days, not three consecutive. All Thursdays, GHOSTBUSTERS will hit screens with a new 2K digital print in 5.1 surround sound. The dates are: October 13th, October 20th, and October 27th.
I’ll tell you what, I like this idea a whole lot better than a damn sequel, prequel or remake. My only concern is that if this idea works and GHOSTBUSTERS pulls a LION KING and tops the box-office in its return…those clamoring for that long stalled GB3 will have evidence of interest to prove. In other words, the suits will get greedy and want to have their cake and eat it too…culling cash from a re-release and a sequel. Par for the course in Hollywood.
Still, it looks like this could be the new economic model. We’ve already heard JURASSIC PARK is heading back into theaters…a film also with a languishing sequel status. Cameron is a bit different, since he’s not proposing TITANIC 2. He did re-release AVATAR with a sequel in mind, but it’s years off with that, and honestly, dude seems far more interested in commerce than art, so he’s kind of in his own world (pun?)
Anyway, what says you? Will you check out GHOSTBUSTERS in theaters next month? Or is your trusty DVD/Blu-ray copy good enough for a screening?

Sigourney!
