Looks like Sharlto Copley is extending his stay in the cosmos…

While he continues to film the massive alien spectacle ELYSIUM for his DISTRICT 9 director Neill Blomkamp, Deadline has it that Copley (seen right) is now involved in another sci-fi thriller called EUROPA. Peep it…

EUROPA, which is currently being shopped in script form at this year’s TIFF, is going to be directed by Ecuadorian director Sebastian Cordero (CHRONICLES, RAGE). Word is Michael Nyquist, Anamaria Marinca and Asian superstar Daniel Wu will also fill out the international cast.

Written by Philip Gelatt, EUROPA tells the story of a six-person team of astronauts from various international space stations who are sent by a private sector corporation to be the first manned mission to Jupiter’s fourth moon.

As is usually the case with firsts, you know some perilous shite is bound to occur on the mission. Will it be extraterrestrial threats? Equipment malfunctioning? Just plain boredom? What will the major hurdles be in this particular story of intergalactic exploration?

We shall see…
