Happy Labor Day folks, what did you get up to this fine weekend? See a film? Well it looks like Box Office numbers picked up a little after last weeks very poor performance.
While two genre releases were in the Top 5 for this weekend’s Box Office, one just edged out the other. APOLLO 18 made just enough to beat out SHARK NIGHT 3D for the third spot. THE HELP once again won the number one spot; it is the little film that could.
APOLLO 18 cost around $5 million clams, and it made back more than that this weekend. Pretty decent, the higher ups have got to at least be satisfied it made budget and then some. SHARK NIGHT 3D on the other hand cost $28 million and made back around a third of that. Perhaps this is a sign that audiences are tired of Shark films for the time being?
Last weeks genre entry DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK managed to stay in the Top 10, but its total earning after two weeks only adds up to be just over half its budget. Other flicks we’ve been following CONAN THE BARBARIAN and FRIGHT NIGHT are in the Top 20, with 50% to 60% of a drop. It really does feel like the end of summer now, we’ll be sure to keep an eye on how the rest of the month rolls.
