Now here’s a project I can definitely get behind!

Variety has it that Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (AMORES PERROS, 21 GRAMS, BABEL) is finally making one of his lifelong dreams a reality…he’s directing a western. And not just any western, he’s undertaking THE REVENANT, based on Michael Punke’s novel about a fur trapper left for dead after sustaining a vicious bear attack.

Hitting me as a cross between WRECKED and RESCUE DAWN, with a little bit of FROZEN thrown in there:

Novel is set in 1823 and centers on a fur trapper who’s mauled by a grizzly bear and robbed by the two men enlisted to stay with him. Fueled by anger, the trapper survives and makes his way through hundreds of miles of uncharted wilderness to exact retribution.

Hell, you can even throw in THE EDGE if you want. All I know is REVENANT sounds pretty damn dope, and with Inarritu bringing his trademark international flare, this instantly becomes one of the flicks I’ll be keeping an interested eye on.

Keep it here for more…
