Back in May we told you about a thriller in the works called PHANTOM, which lined up a top notch cast including Ed Harris, Andy Garcia, William Fichtner and Natasha McElhone. There hasn’t been much news on the project since, but today we learn that it’s found itself a fully financed budget of $18 million through RCR Media Group. In addition, Sony Pictures will release the film domestically, although a date has not been announced.

Some details have dropping in about the plot as well. PHANTOM focuses on the captain of a Soviet nuclear submarine who has to leave his pregnant wife and rush into a secret mission, where he finds himself haunted by the ghosts of his past and challenged by a rogue KGB group which seized his vessel. He’s faced with an impossible choice that could mean either the destruction of his country and family or trigger World War III.

Sounds like a solid mix of war thriller and supernatural drama, and with that cast it’s tough to deny that this is a movie we should be keeping a close eye on.

Shooting begins in October in California.
