Is Alexandre Aja really being eyed to direct the Pet Sematary remake?

Makes you wonder, how did a guy who so thoroughly impressed the horror community with the original HAUTE TENSION, become assigned to needless remake after remake?

As you chew on that, I’ll have you know Alexandre Aja (PIRANHA, MIRRORS, THE HILLS HAVE EYES) is said to be Paramount’s number one choice to direct the PET SEMATARY rehash. As we told you back in February, 1408 scribe Matt Greenberg has been working on a script.

Okay, so nothing’s official…this sounds like a simple studio wish list. Still, it makes sense for Paramount, as Aja has proven himself as one who can remake popular horror titles on the relative cheap and turn a tidy profit. The Frenchman is currently set to exec-produce a “Scanners” TV show, the pilot of which he very well may direct. He’s also attached to the epic COBRA: SPACE PIRATE, but that project is still unfunded with a far off 2013 start date.

But let’s hear what you have to say. Do you like the idea of Aja helming the PET SEMATARY remake? Or do you think, like I kind of do, Aja should get back to directing his own original scripts?
