Early yesterday morning we relayed quite a few details regarding John Luessenhop’s THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D, which certainly seem to take the franchise in a new direction. And while we only know of one actor attached to the project at this point, Bill Moseley, Lionsgate has gone ahead and stabbed the flick with an official release date.
Substantiated by Variety, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D comes to theaters October 5, 2012.
Now, I’ve never been one to shy away from my feelings on venally unnecessary TCM rehashes. Tobe Hooper’s 1974 original is simply my all time favorite horror flick. So it should come as no surprise that this here gimmicky 3D retell is off my radar. That being said, I do appreciate Lionsgate releasing the film in October. We need more horror flicks in theaters around Halloween, no doubt about it!
The film follows Heather, who along with her friends, travels to Texas in order to collect an inheritance. The spin? What would you do if you found out your cousin was Leatherface, and he was now yours?
Here’s what producer Carl Mazzocone said about the project:
“I’m excited to re-conceive this iconic horror classic in a contemporary setting for a new generation of horror fans to enjoy…Both John Luessenhop and I intend to deliver a new chapter derived from Tobe Hooper’s 1973 masterpiece with the goal of making it as horrifying as the original, in 3D.”
