I never really understand why a director would direct the remake of his own film. I suppose I see the appeal: more money, a ticket to Hollywood, a chance to correct the original’s errors. And yet, it still never sits right with me. (Perhaps because the results are often not positive.)

But what about an actor reprising the very same role he played in the original? Probably less of an occurrence. But that’s what goin’ down right now with LOFT, as we learn today that Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts has climbed aboard the remake, which is being helmed (once again) by Eric Van Looy. Schoenaerts will be tackling the very same role he did in the 2008 film. Should be interesting to see if he tinkers with his portrayal…

Schoenaerts joins a cast made up of more recognizable names:Patrick Wilson, Wentworth Miller, Eric Stonestreet and James Marsden. The film follows five married friends who decide to rent a loft together where they can bring their mistresses. When the body of an unknown woman is found in the loft, they realize that they don’t know each other as well as they thought and begin to suspect one another of murder.

Principal photography on LOFT begins June 6th in New Orleans.

Also in the original LOFT: Veerle Baetens
