Dark Tower project in trouble? Universal may pass due to sky-rocketing budget

Let’s be serious now – Who didn’t see this one coming?

That’s right folks, according to the guys over at Variety Universal and Imagine Entertainment are running into a little snag in their adapting of Stephen King’s epic THE DARK TOWER saga. What’s the snag you ask? Well a sky-rocketing budget of course!

Word has it the studio has recently realized it’s dilema and will be meeting in the next few days to determine a solution, which could include partnering with another studio on the project or giving it up entirely. That would be a major bummer, no?

Mind you right now Universal are moving forward with the project as planned, though that’s just for the present time. Hell the studio had already tapped a release date for the first film in the epic saga for May 17, 2013. This situation should come as no surprise to anyone considering how large this project is. The insanely talented duo of J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof couldn’t even best THE DARK TOWER and it’s budget.

I hate to say it but I had this gut feeling about this project from the very beginning. It’s just such a large gamble for any studio. There’s no telling what’s going to happen with THE DARK TOWER now but you can bet as soon as we hear something we’ll pass the good word along to all of you!
