Folks who are chomping at the bit to see Liam Neeson kick more kidnapper ass will be happy to learn that TAKEN 2 is now steadily moving forward. Last month brought us the announcement that Neeson and his on-screen daughter Maggie Grace were definitely returning for the Luc Besson-produced sequel, while today brings us even more news regarding the thriller…
First off, TAKEN 2 now officially has a director: Olivier Megaton. Megaton previously worked with Besson on THE TRANSPORTER 3 and the upcoming action flick COLOMBIANA, which stars Zoe Saldana and Michael Vartan.
Secondly, 20th Century Fox has picked up North American rights to the film, as well as rights to most other territories (excluding France, Germany, parts of Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Benelux.). Besson’s EuropaCorp will produce.
No release date has been set (or a start date, for that matter), but it’s probably safe to assume that we’re looking at a late 2012/early 2013 release.
