Well folks it’s a relatively slow news day out there today so I figured I’d take this opportunity to tell you all about an awesome achievement our beloved genre has scored this year.

So did you guys get a chance to check out James Wan’s INSIDIOUS? If you did you can go ahead and give yourself a nice big pat on the back because you helped the original horror flick become the year’s most profitable film! Thus far of course. Four months in and an original horror flick like INSIDIOUS is being dubbed the most profitable? I’ll take it!

This is some pretty awesome news folks. Made for only $1.5 million, INSIDIOUS has gone on to gross over $50 million with plenty more expected to come rolling in after it drops in the UK and Brazil this weekend. Projections have INSIDIOUS topping off around $90 million.

This is a huge win for original horror flicks out there. Hell micro-budgeted original horror flicks at that! It’s also a huge win for director James Wan, scribe Leigh Whannell and the producing team of Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider. Perhaps there’s still some hope for original horror in the sea of remakes and reboots that’ve poisoned Hollywood.
