Would Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise or Keanu Reeves really consider playing Robocop?

I doubt they would, but at least Jose Padilha and MGM are shooting for the stars…

Moviehole is reporting that the studio is reaching out to, if not now, one time bankable A-listers to don the metal in the upcoming ROBOCOP reboot. Now, Johnny Depp is certainly the most bankable of the three these days, but there’s no way in hell I’d ever see him strap up the steel and play Alex Murphy, a role originated by Peter Weller. Besides, pirates don’t like cops, do they?

Tom Cruise, while his starlight has dimmed in recent years, is still popular enough to avoid having to hide his face behind a steely facade. I can’t really see him agreeing to play the part either, and who the hell wants to see a Lilliputian Robocop? Nah, wouldn’t work.

So to me, if any of these guys would sign on, it would be Keanu Reeves. I’m not saying he will do it, but of the three, he’s most likely in my opinion. Hell, dude’s comfy going back to BILL AND TED 3. Also, with only 47 RONIN currently in the works (filming now), Reeves’ schedule may be the most accommodating of three stars. Still, I can’t even see Keanu signing up to star in a remake of a B-movie from the 80s.

Again, all of this is conjecture at this point, and there’s slim chance any of these cats would be interested, but it is fascinating to see Padilha and MGM going for high profile actors instead of employing a relatively unknown. Should be fun tracking who they eventually cast.

Depp’s RANGO co-star Isla Fisher!
