Where Christopher Nolan plans on shooting THE DARK KNIGHT RISES has been a real source of mystery for those who care about such things. While the last two pictures in Nolan’s Batman trilogy have predominantly shot in London and Chicago, this new one’s locale has been up in the air, with New Orleans mentioned as a possibility a few times. Today, however, we finally know for sure.

Pittsburgh will be where the Caped Crusader fights his final battle (at least under Nolan’s watch). The announcement was made today by Nolan himself in a statement released to the press.

“Pittsburgh is a beautiful city,”
Nolan says in a statement. “We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.”

So what’s the deal? Why no Chicago? Will Gotham have a distinctly different look this time around, or has Batman moved out of Gotham, onto another city? Intriguing, to be sure, but I think at this point we can all trust that Nolan knows what he’s doing.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES has a JULY 20, 2012 release date set. It stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Juno Temple (pictured below).
