Take this one with a grain of salt, but Russian site Kino Gallery reports that Lionsgate will release THE EXPENDABLES 2 in theaters on August 17, 2012. The date makes sense – THE EXPENDABLES was released on August 13 in 2009 – but nothing is confirmed right now.
Although Sylvester Stallone will return to play the lead role, it was recently revealed that he will not be writing or the directing the picture as he did the original. The script is instead written by Ken Kaufman (SPACE COWBOYS) and David Agosto. No word on the director yet.
No plot details are available this early, but casting rumors (or wish lists, more accurately) have been flying around. There is potential for Bruce Willis and/or Arnold Schwarzenegger to return in large roles. Jean-Claude Van Damme is also reportedly looking to star. Who would you like to see in the sequel?
