SyFy Channel is at it again folks. It seems every since they changed their name SyFy has been getting more and more successful. Mind you, this isn’t a bad thing in the least! Quite the contrary, it’s awesome! And the awesomeness continues today with news on a load of new shows heading to SyFy this year! You ready for this?
According to The Hollywood Reporter we’ve got eight, count em’ eight!, new shows heading to SyFy. There’s not really any other way of doing this one so I’ll hit you with the names of the new series followed by a description for each.
“Alphas”: The series will follow a team of ordinary citizens whose brain anomalies give them with extraordinary mental and physical abilities. With those the group, led by Dr. Leigh Rosen (David Strathairn), band together to investigate cases that the CIA, FBI and Pentagon haven’t been able to crack. Malik Yoba, Warren Christie, Laura Mennell (below), Ryan Cartwright and Azita Ghanizada fill out the Alphas cast, with Universal Cable Productions and BermanBraun Television on board to co-produce the series.
“Three Inches”: About an underachiever named Walter Spackman, who is struck by lightning and develops a unique “super” power: the ability to move any object using just his mind at a distance of three inches. The project, from Fox Television Studios, is being written by Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks).
“In The Dark”: Follows a misfit group of wannabe ghost hunters. The project, which hails from Universal Cable Productions, is based on a teleplay by Michael Davidoff and Bill Rosenthal.
“Me and Lee”: About a down on his luck twentysomething whose botched back surgery turns him into a bionic man. In a made-for-TV twist, he becomes a mentor to others looking to get their life in order. A Lionsgate production comes from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan.
“Battlestar: Blood & Crome”: A scripted drama with Luke Pasqualino (U.K.’s Skins) and Ben Cotton (Hellcats) tapped to star. The Universal Cable Prods. production, which is set in the 10th year of the first Cylon war, comes from executive producers David Eick and Michael Taylor
“Haunted Collector”: Centers on a family of renowned paranormal investigators who spend its time tracking down haunted items. The family then houses its collections — think guns, jewelry, paintings and dolls — in its museum. The series, from Gurney Prods.’ Scott Gurney and Deirdre Gurney, will be paired with the second season of Hollywood Treasure, beginning in June.
“Legend Quest”: An action-adventure series that followsreal-life symbologist Ashley Cowie as he travels the world in search of hidden, mystical artifacts. Each episode is designed to combine Indiana Jones-style adventure and Da Vinci Code-type connections as theories are explored. The series is a co-production from BASE Production’s John Brenkus and Mickey Stern and Universal Networks International.
“Paranormal Witness”: A drama-documentary series from Raw TV, the creative team behind Locked Up Abroad and Gold Rush Alaska. The show will bring to life the stories of people who claim to have lived through paranormal experiences. Episodes will feature a mixture of first-hand testimony and gritty drama. Dimitri Doganis and Bart Layton will serve as executive producers on the show, which is set to premiere in September.
