Of all the potentially cool television pilots being put together right now, ABC’s “The River” is easily the most interesting. Coming from PARANORMAL ACTIVITY creator Oren Peli and UNKNOWN helmer Jaume Collet-Sera, the proposed new series is described as a “horror drama that takes place deep in the Amazon”. Not exactly your usual weeknight fare, is it?
Over the last few weeks the show has added a handful of names to help guide its twisted tale: Joe Anderson, Bruce Greenwood and hottie Eloise Mumford are all ready to rock, and now Deadline.com has a couple more names for us…
First up is Paul Blackthorne (pictured right). The television vet has appeared on shows like “The Gates”, “Lipstick Jungle” and “Warehouse13”. He was the lead in Syfy’s “The Dresden Files” a few years back, although that program only lasted 13 episodes. In “The River, Blackthorne will be playing the producer of Dr. Emmet Cole’s (Greenwood) long-running documentary series.
The show has also brought aboard Shaun Parkes, who will be playing the camerman for a documentary crew lost in the Amazon. Parkes is a Brit who you might have seen in “Doctor Who”, “No Ordinary Family” or THE MUMMY RETURNS.
The River follows the story of a famed adventuter/tv personality who goes missing and is presumed dead deep in the Amazon. His friends and crew go to look for him on their state-of-the-art research vessel.
Naturally, they get way more than they bargained for; rumor has it that there’s something deadly lurking in the water…
