Comic book fans will recognize “Powers” as Image Comics’ popular series written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Michael Avon Oeming. The story is now coming to television, as FX has given the green light to a pilot based on the series. The show follows detectives in a homicide department devoted to cases that involve superheroes.
Charles H. Eglee (“The Walking Dead”, “Dexter”) wrote the pilot and will also serve as an executive producer, along with Bendis, Oeming, Michael Dinner, David Engel and Circle of Confusion. Dinner, who helmed the pilots of “Sons of Anarchy” and “Justified”, will also direct.
Sony optioned the rights to a feature film version of the story a decade ago, but that never came to fruition. Sony TV is co-producing the project with FX Productions.
“‘Powers’ pilot was just greenlit by FX. It’s official! Your window of reading ‘Powers’ while it was still cool is running out,” joked Bendis on Twitter.
