I’m no marketing executive, but I have no idea what The Weinstein Company is thinking with APOLLO 18. Originally scheduled to hit theaters on March 4th, the release is now slated for April 22nd, just one week after the Weinsteins’ SCREAM 4.
Release shifts can happen for a number of reasons, and APOLLO 18 was already on a really tight schedule. Still in production, the film is making a mad dash to beat Oren Peli’s similar flick, AREA 51, to theaters. That’s a smart strategy, but I still don’t see why they would put it up against one of their own anticipated films.
APOLLO 18 is purported to be footage from a secret and covert mission to the moon which ends up in revealing evidence of new lifeforms. According to sources, the majority of the story takes place in the rocket in between the Earth and the Moon.
Details regarding the picture are still being kept under wraps. What we do know is that it’s a “found footage” movie about extraterrestrial life. It is directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego (KING OF THE HILL) off a screenplay by Brian Miller.
