I am sad to report that British actress Ingrid Pittt passed away yesterday, November 23rd, just two days after her 73rd birthday. The actress had collapsed a few days prior and was at a hospital in south London.

Much of Pitt’s acting resume is made up of genre movies. She is best known for her work with Hammer Films during their golden age on such films as THE VAMPIRE LOVERS and COUNTESS DRACULA. She also appeared in THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD and THE WICKER MAN. She made her debut in 1964’s SOUND OF HORROR, and her final credit is, fittingly, a Hammer throwback called SEA OF DUST from 2008.

Pitt was Born Ingoushka Petrov in 1937 Poland to a German father and a Jewish mother. She survived a concentration camp in World War II as a child. For a comprehensive account of her life, seek out her 1999 autobiography, Life’s a Scream.

Pitt is survived her second husband, a daughter and granddaughter, along with a cult following of fans who dubbed her England’s first lady of horror. May she rest in peace.
