Well here’s an interesting turn of events. Do you guys remember that ‘found footage’ flick we told you about not to long ago coming our way from The Weinstein Company? The thing was called APOLLO 18 and apparently was being thrown together for a release in less than four months. An entire movie, both pre- and post-production, in four months. Well hot damn…
It seems The Weinsteins had originally tapped Trevor Cawood to helm the feature but Mr. Cawood had to drop out, presumably because he couldn’t make the impossible deadline The Weinsteins have set for the project. So who’s the new name tackling this little diddy? KING OF THE HILL’s Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego that’s who! Natch!
There’s really no telling how this one is going to turn out but one thing is for sure: Lopez-Gallego has his work cut out for him. Why the rush? Well because The Weinsteins want APOLLO 18 to compete with Paramount’s similar ‘found footage’ flick AREA 51. That works.
Apollo 18 is purported to be footage from a secret and covert mission to the moon which ends up in revealing evidence of new lifeforms. According to sources, the majority of the story takes place in the rocket in between the Earth and the Moon.
