Truth be told when I read today’s news over at The Hollywood Reporter I had to do a little bit of a double take. Could Universal be teaming with Special Entertainment Events (SEE) on bringing an online game to life where you get to track down the classic Universal Monsters as everybodies favorite monster-hunter Mr. Van Helsing? Well it seems that is very much the case! Nice!
I kid you not ladies and gentlemen. According to the site Universal and SEE are busily working on this project that’ll bring a massively multiplayer online game to life where players become their own version of monster-hunter Van Helsing. They’ll then do battle with the likes of The Wolfman, Frankenstein, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, the Invisible Man, the Mummy and the Creature From the Black Lagoon. What would be even more badass is if you can play as a Universal Monster and put a hurting on Van Helsing… But alas that doesn’t seem to be an option, yet…
The studio and SEE Virtual Worlds are planning on unleashing this little diddy in late 2011. Here’s hoping it’s worth the wait! We’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open for more regarding this potentially awesome project so be sure to keep it here for more on this Van Helsing versus Universal Monsters massive multiplayer online game as we hear it!
Unfortunately I don’t think Kate Beckinsale will have anything to do with this Van Helsing.
