Dreamworks moves Fright Night out of October slot, inserts Real Steel

Some surprising news coming out of the Dreamworks camp today, as the studio has moved its FRIGHT NIGHT remake out of its OCTOBER 7, 2011 release date, bumping it up to AUGUST 19. A curious move, considering October would have been perfect for the horror flick – one theory is that horror hasn’t exactly been doing great in October, and August is usually a decent time for genre films; its now up against SPY KIDS 4 3D, and the following week brings us FINAL DESTINATION 5. That’s a lot of 3D clogging up the theaters…

Dreamworks has now slotted their Hugh Jackman sci-fi robot-boxing flick REAL STEEL in FRIGHT NIGHT’s place; it was previously sitting on a NOVEMBER 18th date. Also coming out on October 7th is the Jennifer Aniston comedy WANDERLUST, so perhaps there’s a bit of counter programming in play. Not to mention the fact that REEL STEEL was originally up against HAPPY FEET 2 and TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN, so this is looking like a wise move all around.
