One flick that is currently sitting comfortably in my Netflix que is Niels Arden Oplev’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Word has it this flick kicks all kinds of ass… so it should come as no surprise that there’s a US remake of the critically acclaimed international film on the way. But we already knew that… Hell we’ve actually already seen some set photos. So what could I possibly be here today to talk about? How about some casting news for the remake! Oh yeah!
So who’s the latest name to joing THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO? Well according to The Hollywood Reporter it’s none other than veteran actor Christopher Plummer! I know you guys know who Plummer (above) is, I mean how can you not? And you probably also know that whenever Plummer’s name gets thrown onto a film it automatically kicks it up a notch on the ladder. Know what I mean? Of course you do! Plummer is money!
Forty years ago, when Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vanger’s are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.
So what does THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO have in store for the actor? Check it: Christopher Plummer will play the patriarch of the family with dark secrets. He joins Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright and Daniel Craig in the David Fincher production. This shite is filming now with plans being to release it just in time for Christmas on December 21, 2011.
