TWILIGHT is the gift that keeps on giving, isn’t it? Thanks to the ghoulish success of Stephanie Meyer’s insipid book series, we’re getting all sorts of low-rent knock-offs looks to grab some of the residual cash, and one of those knock-offs is something called THE DARK DIVINE, by Bree Despain (even the cover is a cheap imitation).

No surprise, then, that this tale of a young girl who falls in love with a chap who turns out to be a werewolf is being brought to the big screen soon. No director has come aboard yet, but Ralph Winter (X-MEN) and Terry Botwick are producing through their 1019 Entertainment banner.

“The project has strong romantic appeal to the young ‘Twilight’ audience,” Winter and Botwick said in a statement. What more is there to say?

Here’s the official synopsis, enough to make you puke a little in your own mouth: Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared — the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel’s dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.
