Alexandre Aja’s PIRANHA 3D didn’t do amazing at the box office but it seems it pleased the majority of genre fans out there who gave it a shot. Personally I was expecting a little bit more from the flick but in the end I left the theater with a smile on my face. So when news broke that The Weinstein Company were already moving forward with a sequel it put another smile on this schmuck’s face. And it seems they’re wasting no time in getting things rolling!
Well today’s update doesn’t really have anything to do with the actual production of the sequel but it does give us an idea of where The Weinstein’s are going with it! You see the folks over at the NY Post recently got the lowdown on an interesting route The Weinsteins are planning on going with the PIRANHA 3D sequel. It seems Jerry O’Connell’s character from the film was a hit with fans so The Weinsteins and company have decided to make the sequel interactive! What does that mean exactly? Check it:
Fans will be asked to participate in an online contest to vote for the celebrity they’d like to see eaten, or killed by other methods, in the sequel.
Nice! Have you ever sat back and watched a celebrity and thought to yourself: “Man I’d love to see this person bite it in a genre flick…” Well now’s your chance! And considering O’Connell pretty much stole the show in PIRANHA 3D I’m going to go ahead and say this idea will bring nothing but great things. Unfortuantely there’s no telling when this contest will kick off but you can bet your ass as soon as we know we’ll be sure to tell all of you!
