Love stories aren’t really our thing here at AITH. Zombie love stories on the other hand… exactly our thing! You see what just happened there? Yeah you did. Well obviously I’ve come here to give you all an update on a zombie love story heading our way from producer Diablo Cody. Yes I’m talking about that Diablo Cody. Actually we’ve told you about this project before, with the last update coming all the way back in January! So I don’t blame you if you don’t remember this shite. If that is indeed the case, allow me to refresh your memory!

Fox Searchlight have recently decided that S.G. Browne’s novel BREATHERS: A ZOMBIE’S LAMENT was ripe for adaptating so they went ahead and tapped Geoff Latulippe to pen the script with Cody producing. Well this shite went down months ago! So what’s the deal now?

According to Pajiba, not only is the script finished and out to directors but apparently the project already has it’s two stars! … Sort of. You see according to the site A-list names Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson are loosely attached to star in BREATHERS: A ZOMBIE’S LAMENT. And they seem to stress the term loosely! What do you guys think about this one? Sure I could see Diablo Cody attracting Levitt (above) and Johansson (below)… But a genre flick? And after Cody crashed and burned with JENNIFER’S BODY? I just don’t see the logic in this… Then again maybe Latulippe’s script is that good? Who knows.

Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents’ wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie support group and struggling to rejoin a society that offers the undead no rights, bans them from working and doesn’t even punish those who destroy them. When Andy and his fellow zombies—notably Rita, a sexy suicide victim with a lipstick fetish, and Jerry, a Playboy-obsessed stoner—learn why they’re so driven to consume human flesh, the repercussions are both tragic and hilarious. Browne neatly mixes humor and extreme violence with a surprisingly tender love story, some witty social satire and an extremely strong narrative voice.

We should be hearing more on the zombie infested romantic comedy soon, like if there’s any truth to this Levitt/Johansson craziness… As always as soon as we hear more we’ll pass the good word along to all of you!
