One thing you’ve got to give Michael Bay credit for: He doesn’t try directing flicks outside his comfort zone. Producing flicks on the other hand… well he’s all over that.
This leads me to today’s update. Surprisingly I’m here to write about a Michael Bay movie sans the Platinum Dunes name. Instead Bay (above) will be looking to produce this new project via his The Institute shingle with partner Scott Gardenhour. So what exactly is this project I speak of? Why it’s a dark retelling of the classic Grimm Brothers fairytale HANSEL AND GRETEL! I kid you not folks. Scope out the details:
HANSEL AND GRETEL IN 3D is an action packed visual FX filled version of the classic Grimm Brothers’ fairytale. In addition to the infamous witch in the gingerbread house, the film showcases the legendary creatures of German mythology. These Teutonic beings will be designed by Joseph C. Pepe, the lead character designer from AVATAR. The film is live action.
The movie is being produced by The Institute and Kalliope Films. The Institute was co-founded by Michael Bay and Scott Gardenhour. Kalliope Films was founded by Kira Madallo Sesay. The movie is scheduled for a spring 2011 shoot on location in Germany. Scott Gardenhour and Kira Madallo Sesay are the producers on the film. HANSEL AND GRETEL IN 3D exemplifies The Institute’s motto: “Where Brand Science Meets Great Storytelling.”

Now I think it’s safe to say nobody saw this one coming. And I think it’s even safer to say nobody is really interested in seeing a Michael Bay produced HANSEL AND GRETEL flick. Am I right? Who knows… maybe this thing will actually be something. We’ll be keeping our eyes on this one and if things are looking good we’ll pass any updates we get on HANSEL AND GRETEL to all of you!
