Well here’s a very intriguing project heading our way from Imagine Entertainment and Radical Pictures!
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog super-producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are gearing up to bring us a big-screen adaptation of upcoming graphic novel LEGENDS: THE ENCHANTED! Alright, so that doesn’t really sound too exciting right? Just wait until I tell you what this bad boy is about…
Bringing together such characters as Red Riding Hood, Jack the Giant Killer and Hansel & Gretel in a dark fantasy setting, LEGENDS is set in motion when the remains of Pinocchio are discovered. Red Hood, now a noted wolf hunter, and Jack partner to discover who is murdering the creatures of folklore. Along the way, they are assisted by characters such as Goldilocks, re-imagined as a mercenary, and Hansel & Gretel, now psychic exterminators. The world of the graphic novel is a mash-up of steampunk and creatures, technology and magic.
I don’t know about you guys but I’m already completely sold! That sounds pretty bad-ass! I’m a big fan of crossovers and this thing sounds like the grand-daddy of fairy-tale crossovers so you can consider me there! Then again the project doesn’t have a writer, director or even a studio so we’ve got a ways to go before this one actually starts coming together… It definitely has potential though!
The graphic novel, from Nick Percival, actually comes from Radical Pictures’ publishing arm. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are producing for Imagine Entertainment while Barry Levine steps in to produce for Radical. This project stems from the recent success of Disney’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND along with the fact that there’s countless edgy fairy-tale retellings on the way including MALEFICENT, RED RIDING HOOD, CINDERELLA, SNOW WHITE and OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL.
Hopefully some more details on LEGENDS pop up soon. I mean let’s at least get a writer and/or director attached right? To hold us over until we hear something new I’ve gone ahead and tossed up the trailer for the LEGENDS graphic novel. Enjoy!
