So we recently found out that we’d be seeing a 3D remake of the classic sci-fi flick LOGAN’S RUN under the direction of Carl Erik Rinsch. Sexy futuristic babes in 3D? I can live with that. Alright, so we knew that. What we didn’t know was who would be penning this upcoming reboot. Well folks, if you were wondering that exact thing then wonder no longer!
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog none other than Alex Garland will be penning the project! Now I say ‘none other than’ all dramatic and such but truth is there’s really no surprise there. The good thing is Garland has a pretty impressive background thus far, penning Danny Boyle flicks THE BEACH, 28 DAYS LATER and SUNSHINE, so him being the one behind this LOGAN’S RUN remake should get some of that nasty taste out of your mouth at least. Then again first-time director Rinsch is still the one in the director’s chair so time will tell.
Now Rinsch, Garland and producers Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman will be adapting the project from the 1967 William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson novel rather than 1976 film starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter (below) and Farrah Fawcett. The novel obviously has a much larger world for the filmmakers to explore so they’ll have a lot more to work with. Here’s the rundown:
“Run” is set in a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a “runner” and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.
No telling when this thing will actually start filming but we’ll keep you updated every step of the way!
