So by now we all know that Guillermo del Toro has dropped from THE HOBBIT right? I say good! It actually upset me a little to see that a creative mind like del Toro’s was going to be tied up for years with this new venture. Now I dig the LORD OF THE RINGS flicks, but I’m not a huge fan so there’s my logic. Needless to say THE HOBBIT films are still going to get made, they’re probably still going to be awesome… and now del Toro gets to go do his own thing!
So what will the talented filmmaker be tackling next? Well he’s got an abundance of projects lined up but it seems he’s placing a brand new project onto his upcoming slate! According to the guys over at Pajiba, del Toro has just sealed a deal with Universal to write and produce a brand new VAN HELSING film! That’s right ladies and gents, it seems like we’ll be seeing a VAN HELSING reboot straight from the mind of del Toro, which he describes as an ‘action-horror story.’
Apparently del Toro is currently on board as writer and producer but there’s a chance he will jump on to direct the feature. Word has it he’s also looking for a writer to expand his treatment. This news seems paper thin but it’s too juicy to pass up.
What do you guys think? Would you rather see a del Toro directed HOBBIT or are you more excited for this news? If this is indeed true one thing is for sure, del Toro’s VAN HELSING will be nothing like Stephen Sommers’ 2004 film and I’m sure his vampires won’t be anything like that TWI-crap either. So with that in mind… you can sign me up!
