Have you guys heard about this book heading our way called BLOOD OATH? It comes from author Christopher Farnsworth and is actually hitting stores today. So why am I just now talking to you about BLOOD OATH? Well the ‘vampire James Bond’ tale has just been tapped for a big screen adaptation! Surprise, surprise.
Considering vampires are currently a hot topic in Hollywood it’s actually no surprise a novel like BLOOD OATH would get picked up, but hey, I’m not complaining. This thing is actually sounding pretty badass! Ready for the details?
A mix of political techno thrills and supernatural action, “Oath” centers on a vampire captured by the U.S. Army just after the Civil War who is forced to swear an oath to President Andrew Johnson and has protected the presidency in the Secret Service for nearly 150 years.
In “Oath,” the vampire, named Nathaniel Cade, is paired with a new human handler and finds himself embroiled in a plot involving a monstrous new form of biological weapon with a connection to the White House.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Lucas Foster just snatched up the rights to BLOOD OATH via his Warp Films banner and plans on fast-tracking this shite in hopes of spawning an entire franchise! Alright, a vampire secret agent sounds pretty badass… but only if he has to battle other genre baddies. A vampire handling everyday secret service stuff just doesn’t sound too appealing… But worry not! Apparently BLOOD OATH ‘bucks vampire fatigue by focusing on action and bringing in different supernatural creatures.’
Foster has also optioned BLOOD OATH’s sequel BLACK SITE, which Farnsworth is currently working on. The writer will be assisting in production as executive producer. He’ll also be aiding the screenwriter eventually hired to adapt the novels. Foster had the following bits to say about the deal:
“It always starts with the character for me. [Nathaniel] Cade has an amazing history, a great attitude and a great set of powers. He is a complete movie figure.
It’s a big idea and it’s an idea that in the wrong hands could have been cheesy. He did a very good job of making the reader, and me, buy it. It’s the right tone between thriller and improbable fantasy.
I’m using my own money so I’m pretty careful with the things I develop, and I tend to make the things I develop. I want to get a fast start, and I’m hoping to get this in production next year.”
