Twilight Saga: Eclipse scores new rating by MPAA for unexpected reasons

The moral voice of America known as the MPAA slapped TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE with its official rating yesterday, and while the letters (and numbers) are not surprising, the reasons for them may actually raise an eyebrow or two.

ECLIPSE has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and violence, and some sensuality by the MPAA. Ok, it’s PG-13, so that was a given from the beginning. But ‘intense action and violence’? Now that’s surprising. And it promising for a darker episode in the SAGA than we’ve previously seen.

TWILIGHT‘s PG-13 was for some violence and a scene of sensuality and NEW MOON‘s PG-13 was for some violence and action, making ECPLISE more violent and action-packed than the rest, with just the same amount of sensuality (give or take). I guess we can all thank David Slade for the increase in violence… you da man, Slade!

Of course, this won’t make ECLIPSE more attractive to those who have already dismissed the series as trash (i.e., me), but it’s interesting to know for those whose girlfriends might drag them to this f*cker next month that, hey… at least there’s some intense action and violence to keep ya entertained. Then again, it’s still PG-13…

Prepare for TWLIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE in theaters everywhere June 30, 2010.
