Universal Pictures has set a date for the M. Night Shymalan produced thriller DEVIL, which is actually going out under the title THE NIGHT CHRONICLES: DEVIL. This is the first of a slate of low-budget films that Shyamalan is overseeing, producing and creating the stories for. John Erick Dowdle and his brother Drew (QUARANTINE) are directing from a screenplay by Brian Nelson (30 DAYS OF NIGHT). The flick has been in the works since late 2008, so it’s good to see that it’s finally ready to party.
The date is FEBRUARY 11, 2011, which puts it head to head with Patrick Lussier’s DRIVE ANGRY 3D. Should be interesting match-up, and we’ll have to see if Summit Entertainment blinks and moves the Nic Cage thriller elsewhere. (There’s also some bullshit called GNOMEO AND JULIET being released on that date.)
As for DEVIL, the plot details are still sketchy. Allegedly, it’s about a group of people trapped in an elevator, one of them being Lucifer himself. As the project has been admirably shrouded in secrecy, don’t take that synopsis as the gospel.
