Just yesterday we saw a cool new TV spot and poster for Platinum Dunes’ A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET refitting. And just as promised, between now and April 30th we’ll be bashing your pretty little brains with all things Krueger. Next up is a newly altered trailer for the movie. Hope you got your ice handy, ’cause we’re deckin’ you plum in the jaw with this bad boy below!
While not terribly different than the theatrical trailer that debuted back in February, this new look is the one that can currently be seen in theaters prior to CLASH OF THE TITANS. A few seconds seem to have been shaved, the result is a tighter, more direct peek into the film’s narrative. Also, links to prior NIGHTMARE flicks, be it a shot of the Elm Street sign or the infamous bathtub scene have been omitted this time around.
You know, it’s easy to take shots at Platinum Dunes for remaking such a beloved horror franchise. Chief among the complaints may be the studio’s lack of risk taking. Yet, even as a relative skeptic of this particular remake, I offer this: isn’t it a bit risky to A). Replace Bob Englund with a man hardly proven capable of commandeering such an iconic character? and B). Isn’t also a bit risky to attempt a stern, non-campy ELM STREET rendering the latter part of the franchise has devolved into? It seems to me that even less risk would be taken if Bob Englund returned to yuck it up with wink-wink jokes and parodic call backs.
Might be something to think about.
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET stars Katie Cassidy (below), Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Connie Britton and Jackie Earle Haley.
Stroll down ELM STREET April 30th!
