Looks like Kellan Lutz is moving from vampiric jock-strap to deified air. Or water rather.
Variety is reporting that Lutz (seen right), star of the TWILIGHT films and upcoming A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake, has just been added to Tarsem Singh’s WAR OF THE GODS (AKA THE DAWN OF WAR). In what’s clearly shaping up to be a flipside to Louis Leterrier’s CLASH OF THE TITANS, Lutz has been cast as Poseidon, Greek God of the Sea (a role Danny Huston is assigned to in Leterrier’s film).
Lutz joins Mickey Rourke, Freida Pinto and Henry Cavill in a story that follows a young warrior Theseus who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind.
It’s a pretty bold move for Singh to forge ahead with another large scale, mythological sword-&-sandal flick without even seeing how CLASH OF THE TITANS performs. Shite, casting Mickey Rourke is risky enough, some would say…so to ride the coattails of an unproven epic seems a bit like financial Russian roulette. I mean, with lackluster reviews already coming in for Leterrier’s 3D spectacle…Singh and company could dig themselves into a hole before even commencing production. Again, quite a bold move!
Production starts next month on WAR OF THE GODS. Jason Keller’s script is the most recent draft, after an earlier draft by Christian Gudegast was deemed re-workable.
Relativity Media will produce the film, Universal will distribute.
More casting news is no doubt abound, so stay up!
The lovely Freida Pinto!
