McAdams joins We Have Always Lived in the Castle, eyes Orphanage remake?

Unless you consider Wes Craven’s surprise hit RED EYE a horror film, it appears Rachel McAdams may be stalking her first real gig in our beloved genre!

According to the fine folks of Pajiba, McAdams is in talks to play a role alongside Michael Douglas in a flick called WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE, adapted by Mark Kruger from the 1962 tome by Shirley Jackson. It’s believed McAdams will play one of two sisters (fathered by Douglas’ character) who falls into a life of seclusion after several members of their family become poisoned. Complications arise when a dubious long lost cousin arrives to secure the family fortune. While no director is attached to the project at this point, word is Saoirse Ronin is also in discussion to play McAdams’ sibling.

Sound pretty cool to me. Not only a stab at Gothic Victorian horror, which is most welcome, it looks like the project is attracting some top flight acting talent. And while I like McAdams okay, I have no doubt in my mind Saoirse Ronin is headed for super stardom. A helluva young actress!

But that’s not the only word out of the McAdams camp. You see, Rachel is also among the leading lady candidates for Mark Pellington and Guillermo Del Toro’s remake of THE ORPHANAGE. This story should be treated with less gravity than the last, simply due to the fast approaching start date for the remake in conjunction with McAdams’ hectic current work schedule (including possible roles in films by Woody Allen and Terry Malick, respectively). Even so, this could shape into an interesting development.
